Waffles, Fries & Macarons: Belgium—France

Brussels, Lille, and Paris are all brimming with life. You’ll love each city and won’t be able to choose your fav—don’t worry, we won’t make you!

Start your adventure in Brussels, seeing the “musts” and experiencing Belgian culture through chocolate tasting, biking and even disco bowling! Visit Lille to see El Camino’s own French celeb, Camille for a few days, before continuing onto Paris. After three days in Paris, you’ll be a pro at catching the metro and ordering a croissant! Visits to the iconic sites of Paris – the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Louvre, to name a few – will leave you breathless and amazed.

Are you ready to experience something different?

Here's what you can expect:

Day 1

Arrive in the capital of the European Union. Brussels is a vibrant international city both modern and historic. Check in to hotel and take a stroll to stretch your legs after a long flight. Dine and head to bed!

Day 2

Wake refreshed and ready for the day. Work up an appetite for waffles and fries on our 3.5 hour guided bicycle tour of the city. Visit the Musée Magritte to see the works of Belgium’s best known surrealist artist. Wander on your own before dinner and a night of disco bowling!

Day 3

Head to the Atomium, site of the 1958 World’s Fair, for a science lesson and to Mini Europe to improve our geography skills. Recharge with a chocolate tasting tour. Don’t forget some treats for your family and friends! Time to explore. So many options! Comic Arts Museum, the flea market, people watching in one of the many parks. Dinner at the renowned Wolf International Food Market.

Day 4

Savor a free morning of exploring or resting before grabbing sandwiches and snacks for the train ride to Lille. Enjoy lunch and a special tour of this up-and-coming industrial city with our friend Camille! Stroll through the quaint streets and past the many cafés. Reflect on your experiences so far.

Day 5

Day trip to the coast to visit the historic WWII locations of Dunkirk and Calais. Impress Mr. Thompson and Mr. Waldo when you get home! Practice your French and purchase your train tickets on your own! Don’t worry, Ms. Bernhoft will be right there! Stay the night in Lille.

Day 6

Au revoir Lille et Camille! Time to jump on the TGV, France’s high speed train, to Paris! Experience the metro as we make our way to our hotel in Montmartre, the famous artists’ quarter. Get to know this charming neighborhood as we visit the Mûr de je t’aime, Sacré Coeur, and the artists’ square Place du Tertre. Grab a crêpe before we head into to the city for a first look at Paris on a bateau mouche (boat ride).

Day 7

Wake up rested for another guided bike tour—this time through all the can’t-miss sites of Paris. Grab lunch at a local boulangerie and picnic in the park before heading to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Enjoy the fabulous 360-degree views of Paris. Eat dinner and relish some free time in Montmartre.

Day 8

Museum day! You cannot come to Paris without a visit to the Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay. See the Mona Lisa and the Impressionists up close! All that culture and walking can be exhausting. Free time to explore in groups or rest in one of the many charming Parisian cafés before dinner.

Day 9

Time to say “Au revoir, Paris! À bientôt!” as we fly back to Sacramento from Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport. Your family will be so happy to see you and anxious to hear all about your adventures!
